I stand corrected. That is of course as real as one generated by the MTA.

Out of curiosity: is the generation of message id (on an outgoing
mail) the responsability of the MUA or MTA? If gnus adds a message id
field to a mail it is about to send, will the MTA (or behaved ones at
least) respect that or generate a new one?
