It's also not an option on systems with a sealed server, like Cyrus.
Under Cyrus, you can't get at messages except through the server.
(Well, you can, but then you also have "little" issues with having to
update various cache files which the server mmaps into memory for
speed.)

Better just to remember that in IMAP terms, a message is immutable.
Any annotations you want to do should be remembered in some other way,
or should be user-defined flags.  Any "corrections" should be done
before the message hits the server, or when it's re-filed, if you're
willing to suck it down and then send it back up.
