I'm not able to reproduce this, with XEmacs 20.4, 21.1 or 21.2 on
intel linux with latest Gnus.

What does "cannot reach the IMAP server" mean?  I've tried theese
cases:

        host lookup fail
        host lookup works, host does not reply (tcp level)
        host lookup work, host reply but login fail

and everything work as expected.  I could imagine something funny
might happen if the server reply at the tcp level but you don't get a
IMAP conversation going.  But C-g should work.

This is with `network' nnimap-stream, do you use SSL, STARTTLS,
Kerberos 4 or GSSAPI?
