nnimap not updating ACTIVE file?

I am using pgnus v0.96 and nnimap 0.130.
SunOS tara 5.6 Generic_105181-12 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-2

nnimap seems to work fine and it deposits mail in
/home/babus/Mail/.
I verified by looking at the INBOX.* files.

gnus lists the folders INBOX.self etc. But when I type 'g',
it doesn't show the new mail that I know is in INBOX.self.
It just shows a *. The ACTIVE file doesn't get updated.
But if I enter INBOX.self, quit it
and type a 'g', it sometimes works (shows 1 instead of *).
When it works I can see that the ACTIVE file is updated.

I even tried going to the server buffer and typed g on
'nnfolder:/home/babus/Mail' to re-generate but it doesn't
help.


When I type ^Ug, it says "nnimap: Generating active list for shorter..."
and it doesn't finish even after 2 minutes. I have to type ^G to abort.

Also what is the format of the ACTIVE file
  INBOX.junk 5 2 y
  INBOX.bugid 1 1 y
What do the second and third fields represent?


The group buffer appears like this
       0: nnfolder+/home/babus/Mail/:INBOX.avweb
       4: nnfolder+/home/babus/Mail/:INBOX.junk
How can I make it appear like this?
       0: INBOX.avweb
       4: INBOX.junk


Any pointers would be much appreciated.
