You can't change the contents of an article in IMAP. What we can do
is, of course, fetch the article, change it, and create a new
article. I don't know if that will map with how Gnus does article
editing -- the article number would change, probably this breaks
everything.

I've added "look into article editing" to the todo list though.

Can't we have a Gnus function for displaying an attachments as some
other MIME type?  It would require extra work every time you view the
article so it's not exactly what you'd want.

No IMAP server support it. IMHO this is a good design choice.

One idea is to use the ANNOTATE extension which lets you make
annotation to articles, I don't think it was meant to be used
internally by the client but I haven't read the RFC.
