Try pressing C and O on the nnimap server in the Server buffer, then
you shouldn't have to restart Gnus.

I was hoping this had gone away, haven't seen it since I was running
Gnus 5.6.x. I don't know exactly what to look for, but could there
have been a autologout prior to the error?
This error is quite strange, it means Gnus called a nnimap backend
function and nnimap wasn't able to locate it's server variables. I
think.

It means the group has been removed and created again. Or could be
that you've emptied the group, and then new articles has been appended
to the group. Or something like that.
With recent versions, it should fix itself when you enter them (or
press M-g on them). Doesn't it? Is the UIDVALIDITYs always the same,
or does it change?
Are you running UWash btw? If the group is empty, Uwash returns
different UIDVALIDITY's every time we look at the group. Then this
shouldn't be anything to worry about. Well, it shouldn't be anything
to worry about anyway, really.
