Ok, ok.  I've installed gnus-5.6.38 and things are working fine now.
0.3.24 is much faster than 0.3.20 -- thanks!

I still think it would be nice for nnimap take advantage of the
\Unmarked flag in the list response.  This would make new mail
checks faster yet.
