Thanks for your patience, but I'm *actually* using procmail
for mail splitting (on that box, where imapd runs),
so my regular system INBOX should be absolutely irrelevant,
and it should not be required at all.

Incorrect, it goes to a folder that I specify to procmail.
It is actually the other way round:
procmail reads its input from that INBOX
and splits it into those folders, that I want imapd to see.
