Hm, haven't seen that for a while, Gnus should reopen the server
before attempting to use it.

Could you eval `(setq debug-on-error t)', repeat the problem and send
me the backtrace?

(You can use the server buffer (`^') to close/open the server
manually, so you don't have to restart.)
