It must be something like that because when I use Pine to access IMAP
mailboxes on another machine I need to supply a password just like for
gnus.  Of course, I'm surprised that gnus requires the passwd if your
/etc/hosts is set - that seems like it could be changed, but I'm not
familiar with how connecting via IMAP works.

My solution is to have a .authinfo, which works fine.
